The phrase “Visit Konpira once in your lifetime” has been famous since the Edo period, and Kotohira-gu Shrine, known as Sanuki Konpira, brings in four million worshippers annually to this day. The observatory deck next to the main shrine is ideally located for magnificent views of the “Fuji of Sanuk” and the Sanuki Plains. The stone steps here are famous, with 785 steps to the main shrine and 1,368 steps to the rear shrine, the views that welcome you growing more spectacular the higher you climb.
