54 The Oldest in Japan: Dogo Onsen Honkan, the Symbol of Dogo

Though rebuilt in 1894 and then renovated in 2014 for the 120th anniversary of its reconstruction, Dogo Onsen Honkan has over 3,000 years of history and serves as a symbol of Shikoku. The first bathhouse designated as a national important cultural property in 1994, Dogo Onsen is well-reputed both in Japan and abroad. A walk around this symbol of Dogo reveals different and distinctive sceneries. There are many spots around the main building where you can experience history and culture, as well as rickshaw guides. Once you’ve taken your commemorative photo, soak in the hot springs to heal both body and mind.
