45 Tilling Toward the Heavens: Yusumizugaura Terraced Fields

Terraced fields built on stone walls across a steep slope facing the Uwa Sea create powerful scenery that can be seen as “tilling toward the heavens” that will make the viewer feel the lives and labor of the people who have dwelled here over the ages. At the foot of these terraced fields lies a teahouse that welcomes visitors with food and drink made with local ingredients. Stroll along the narrow paths lining the terraced fields to see up-close the stone walls built through the toil of ancestors. The Terraced Field Conservation Association has been established to conserve this important landscape.
