Kumakogen in Ehime and Yusuhara in Kochi

32 Shikoku Karst, a Playground in the Sky

Situated on the border between Kochi and Ehime is Shikoku Karst, one of the top three karsts in Japan. At the highest altitude in Japan, this karst features a distinctive landscape of exposed limestone formations dotted across sprawling meadows set against clear skies and low-hanging clouds. On a clear day, the surrounding Shikoku Mountains are also visible. Roads have been established across the mountain ridge crossing the karst terrain, letting you enjoy the vast scenery as you stroll or ride a bicycle or motorbike. Accommodations are available on both the Ehime and Kochi sides of the karst, where you can enjoy the starry night sky and the sea of clouds.
